Kenyan Sitatunga: The Very Rare, Endemic And Shy Antelope by Robert Muhoho
A rare sight, this red- earth antelope species has splayed hooves for walking in muddy places.
I finally get to see a situnga for the first time in my life. In bird lingo when you see a bird for the first time, it's a lifer' for you. But the situnga is an antelope and a very rare one indeed. I wonder how I can term these experience, to see one of the world's rarest antelopes on a road=side swamp, which happens to have no protection but yet harbors one of the largest population in the country.
When I first saw the sitatunga in 1999 here, I was surprised. It was the same kind I had seen at the Saiwa Swamp many years ago, recounts Mzee Kipkel Maiyo from the area. I reported the sighting to the KWS office in the area and a team came to see if it was true.
Kinwal swamp lies on the Eldoret Kapsabet road. The tarmac string runs right through the swamp and it is quite unbelievable that a rare antelope lives in the midst of the papyrus swamp lining it.
It's a lovely sunny morning and we are walking along the main road trying to see though the enormous papyrus flowers for the rare red-earth colored antelope that has splayed hooves specially adapted for walking in muddy swamps. A pair of white butterflies flitting by the grasses grabs our attention as they settle on a stalk of grass looks like love is in the air.
Kingwal swamp is surrounded by people who cultivate right around it and divert the water to there farm. Yet the farm has been expanding because of siltation. We're getting the running commentary from Mary Mbenge, a young woman who knows the swamp like the back of her hand.
This swamp is not legally protected, she goes on,Denver Broncos Jersey, yet it has more sitatunga compared to Saiwa swamp or Lewa Down.
Three crowned cranes peck on the farmer's ploughed fields by the swamp. This road is actually very useful, continues Mary, because it acts as a fire breaker. She recalls an incident when a fire did break out but did not spread to the other side of the road. It saved the situnga.
By this time, we're getting impatient to see the elusive antelope. Don't worry, you will see them says the young woman confidently. I'm not quite sure because from the literature I've read, they prefer to come out during the cooler part of the day=early morning or late evenmg.It's now approaching midday and the sun is burning.
We'll drive in .The swamp stretches seven kilometers inland on this side of the road. You will meet some villagers and members of the environment group who will tell you more.
With that, we jump into our hired matatu and with Mary Mbege acting as the navigator; we brave the beaten track inland. The Nandi home steads are picturesque sitting on pretty farms. The ploughing season is on and every one is busy tilling the land for preparation for the rains. More crowned cranes grace the fields.Finally; we reach a homestead and walk through it to the swamp which is thick with papyrus, reeds and other water plants. A red fireball lily breaks the monotone green. Ladder leans against a tall tree. It's one of the situnga towers from where can hopefully spot the antelope.
When I counted them in 2004 they were 67.Saiwa Swamp has fewer than 12 there was six that were Tran located to Lewa Down in Laikipia a few years ago. You will see them, she repeats with the same confisence.She is one of the first to study the swamp, starting as a Bsc student on world life management at Moi University. Hooked by the beauty and rare sightings in the area, she's been around for six years now, working with the community and starting environment clubs.
The swamp is busy with birds and spots what look like otters swimming in a pool in the swamp. We trudge through to get a closer look with the sun hot on our backs. Its then that one member of Tasike Setanda, the local environment group, spots the Sitatunga among the reeds.
The excitement is palpable. We scoot through the reeds to get to exact spot and crane our necks for a glimpse. All we can see is its nose sticking out of the reeds and a spot of the rich red color of its coat. We deem ourselves lucky, consoling ourselves that to see even the nose tip of a rare antelope is really lucky.
Okay, we're now going to that homestead, announces Mary .A stunning red flowered tree marks the homestead. If you don't mind getting your feet wet, we can walk through the swamp or drive around it.
By now, faint with anger most of us opt for the car. Our lunch is in it too. Mary and a few other friends walk through the swamp. I like the confidence of this young woman who made complete map of the swamp with Gaps markings for her bachelor's degree project. What she doesn't tell us is that with the muddy terrain, it will take us almost an hour to drive around the swamp while she wades through the swamp in a matter of minutes.
Again, we walk through the earlier homestead to reach the swamp lining it. Another ladder is propped against a tall tree. I think the Nandi has built a ladder to their specifications forgetting that short people can not climb rungs that almost reach their chest. The sportier ones among us are up the tree=tower and in the clearing of the swamp among seconds. They spot a pair of sitatunga coolly having there lunch break.
I cannot come almost 400 kilometers from Nairobi to see a swamp antelope and not see it because of the inappropriately built ladder. The guys are great and help improvise the ladder and with much heave and hoi scale the ladder and see the sitatunga=in the swamp clearing. Its a historical moment for all of us seeing it at the first time. I told you you'd see he sitatunga,says Mary smugly. The local people do not hunt this species, that's why we can see them almost any time during the day. And another thing. The Nandi do not even have a word for the sitatunga because they have never seen the antelope before.
Satisified, we clamber down to a picnic lunch by the swamp.

SWAMP SECRET
Kingwal swamp is 25 kilometers from Eldoret towards Kaosabet. Its slightly bigger than Saiwa swamp which is a protected national park for the sitatunga. Kingwal currently measures 2.73 square kilometers. Saiwa Swamp near Kitale is 1.89 square kilometers.
The sitatunga once numerous around the swamps of Kenya is now listed as a threatened animal. This is because swamps in Kenya haven't being managed properly, most being drained for other purposes. In other parts of Africa they are numerous where the wetlands are left alone.

Cleaning the kitchen can be hard work. Most people have a variety of household cleaners under the sink for each cleaning problem. To get things clean it takes a lot of muscle and ‘elbow grease' to get the job done. Unfortunately, the harder you work, the more you breathe in dangerous fumes.
Problem: Keep Out Of Reach Of Children
Have you read the precautions and warnings on the back of those cleaners under your sink? STOP --- go to your kitchen right now and grab one of your household cleaners. Read the back of the product. Pretty scary stuff.
I have glanced at many of these warnings and precautions on the back of the household cleaners, and until recently - I continued using these cleaners. Many of these cleaners suggest using the products with adequate ventilation. I do not know the size of your bathroom, but most bathrooms are tiny with poor ventilation. Your eyes burn and you try to hold your breath. You try to clean the bathroom quickly so you don't breathe in too many of the fumes.
Solution: Safe Non-toxic Cleanser
There is an alternative to many of these household cleaners and it is a safe, non-toxic all-purpose cleaner called Botanic Gold®. But first, here are some of the warnings posted on many of the products you probably have in your home right now:

Our clients have complained to us about companies such as Luxury Resort Management
Is timeshare a financial investment? by Jose Gonzalez
Have you been scammed into buying a timeshare as an investment property because of rental weeks or marketing programs that you were offered during a fraudulent sales pitch?
Many timeshare scam organizations make promises that they will refer you to a company that will:
- rent weeks at your timeshare to cover the purchase price and maintenance fees or to make tens of thousands of dollars in profit
- sell a timeshare you already own in order to help you to purchase a new timeshare
- sell your timeshare for a profit
Timeshares are not financial investment properties! Often the promises of renting or selling your property are made verbally, and are not included in the contract that you sign when you purchase the timeshare. The salespeople persistently guarantee that your weeks can be rented or sold, but state that they are not able to include this in their contract as it will be a partner company that is responsible for listing the properties. Sometimes they will even show you a fax from their partner rental agency in the US stating that you are guaranteed listings and that rental suites at your property are in high demand by vacationers.
All of these false promises of an excellent return on investment entice vacationers to purchase timeshares. The resorts do not advise you that the companies they are referring you to will charge you an upfront fee to list your property.
Our clients have complained to us about companies such as Luxury Resort Management, Resort Rentals International, Dreams RSI or Regal Resales and Rentals, to whom they have paid several hundreds of dollars to list their properties on their websites. These types of companies promise to rent or sell timeshare properties for far more than the actual value. For example, they may offer to list your property for $2,800 per week when the actual amount that it may rent for is less than $500. These unrealistic prices and assurance of rentals or sales lure clients into paying the upfront fee for their services. They often promise to send you the contract and draft listing before even processing the fee on your credit card. However, the administration fee is processed right away, and clients do not receive the draft listing for several weeks.
The rental agent contract usually states that their company will represent your property on their website. When the clients go to the rental agency´s website, there are no actual listings of timeshare units. Sometimes there is a generic listing of the property, but no details about the price or description of the unit. Potential renters or buyers have no information by which to even become interested in purchasing your weeks in your timeshare. The websites only have online forms for people to contact the agency if they wish to sell or rent their timeshare, not to rent their client´s timeshares.
Six months or a year later, the client´s properties have not sold or been rented, and they have never been contacted by the property management or realty company, or any of their representatives. The property management companies have already received their fee, so there is no incentive for them to follow through on their false promises. These companies are not in the business of renting or selling properties. Their profits are solely made by the listing fees that vulnerable timeshare owners pay to them. In short, not only have the timeshare purchasers been scammed by the resort, but also by the rental agencies who make deceitful guarantees that they will rent or sell their properties.
Property managers and realtors in North America normally do not charge upfront fees to represent you in a rental or sale. Listing on their website is part of their normal service, and is an expense incurred by the agency in order to do business. Payment is made on a commission basis once they are successful in renting or selling your property.
Avoid being scammed again by dishonest sales practices! When thinking of purchasing, renting, or canceling a timeshare, make sure that you do not pay any money upfront for administrative fees. You work hard for your money, and it is important that these companies don´t try to take that from you. Honest organizations will work hard to render their services so that they get paid accordingly,Denver Broncos Jersey.

Tucked away in the picturesque Ozark Mountains, which offers solace and rejuvenation to travelers, Eureka Springs was recently selected as one of America's Distinctive Destinations, by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. You don't want to carry ten pounds of clothes when backpacking. In fact, for us lightweight backpackers, anything more than a few pounds is too much. This means washing clothes on the trail at some point. Here are some tips on how to do it right.
Here's the easy solution for short backpacking trips, those that are three days or less: just don't wash your clothes. That is, unless they really need it. In that case proceed to the next paragraph.
Try to make your backpacking clothes less stinky. In other words, don't sweat too much. Actually this is a good idea for another reason. If you get your clothing wet with sweat, later you may have a problem staying warm. It cools dramatically at night in the mountains and desert, for example, and the evaporative effect from your damp clothing can chill you dangerously at times.
The best plan, then, is to remove layers before you start to sweat. You can also prevent sweaty feet - and therefore stinky socks - by applying antiperspirant to the bottoms of your feet for several days before you go backpacking. Letting clothing air out on tree branches in camp can remove some odors as well.

Of course at some point, especially on the longer backpacking trips, you will need to wash your clothes. Detergent, however, is bad for streams and lakes. If you feel you absolutely must use it, follow these guidelines:
- Carry the clothes and water away from the stream or lake (200 feet).

- Add soap, scrub and then squeeze out as much detergent and water as you can.

It is a time of strife, a time of upheaval, a time of Revolution! Your beloved city has plunged into chaos, desperately waiting for someone to assume leadership and give the city direction. You are more than willing to take up the challenge, but so are a handful of other revolutionaries! It is time to show the city who is really in control. Blackmail the general. Bribe the merchant. Threaten the priest with extreme force. Gain support from the city and prepare for Revolution!
Revolution is a strategy board game based on the theme of political turmoil and gaining influence over a city. It is considered a gateway game, a game that is not as complex as the standard strategy board game, but introduces gaming concepts and mechanics to new or casual board gamers. In the case of Revolution, the game revolves around the mechanics of bidding and area control as you try to use money, blackmail and force to outmaneuver the other players and take control of key areas in the city.
The goal of the game is to earn the most support from the city. This can be done either by collecting support points during the game, and by controlling key areas of the city at the end of the game. These areas - such as the Fortress, Cathedral, Harbor and Market - are worth different amounts of support to the players who end the game in control of them. And controlling an area means you need to have the most influence on it, as represented by colored cube tokens.
So how do you win support and place your colored cubes on the crucial zip codes? By using the best tools available - gold, blackmail and force! You can gain the cooperation of the city's key figures by either bribing them, or blackmailing them, or using extreme force to convince them to support your cause. But every player will want to influence these people. So the game has a special bidding mechanic to decide which player is successful.
The bidding process in Revolution takes place on bidding boards (each player has their own board) with 16 boxes on them, with each box representing one of the key figures in the city. You indicate which of these boxes you wish to influence by placing your "resources" on them, represented by Gold, Blackmail and Force tokens. All this is done in secret behind screens though, so you won't know which boxes the other players are trying to influence, and how much resources they are putting into them. The resources are not created equal either. A bid that contains Blackmail will trump a bid made with only Gold, and a bid that contains Force will win against bids that only contain Gold or Blackmail. If there's an equal amount of Force in two bids, the bid with the largest amount of Blackmail in it will win.
There are some restrictions though. For example, Force cannot be used to influence the General or Captain (they are probably more violent than you), and Blackmail can't be used on the Innkeeper or Magistrate (they most likely have more material to blackmail you with). And then there's the Mercenary who will only accept cold, hard cash. So each player places their bids in secret, and once everyone is ready, all the bids are revealed and the winners for each bid box is determined.
Each box will provide the winning bid with different benefits. For example, the General will give a few support points, a Force token that you can use for bidding in the next round, and the ability to place one colored cube to influence the Fortress. Similarly, the Innkeeper will provide support, a Blackmail token, and allows a colored cube to influence the Tavern. There are other abilities though, such as the Printer which provides you with a whopping 10 support points but nothing else. There's also the Spy that lets you replace somebody else's colored cube on the board with your own, and the Apothecary that lets you swap the locations of two colored cubes on the board.
Once all the boxes' abilities are performed, each player collects whatever Force, Blackmail and Gold they earned this round (topped up to 5 total tokens using Gold). The next round of bidding begins, and this continues on until every last influence slot in all the key areas in the city are filled with player cubes. Once that happens, the game ends, control of each area is determined and the support scores are totaled.
The game is very fluid, as control of the key areas keep flip-flopping, especially due to the Spy and Apothecary. Similarly, the bidding process can be very unpredictable as players inadvertently cancel each other out (no benefits are obtained when there is a tie in a bid). Sometimes, the players will all be aiming for different boxes and key areas to influence, resulting in a pretty peaceful game. In other games, everyone might be trying to bribe the Priest and gain influence in the Cathedral, causing lots of heated bidding, backstabbing and frustration (and one happy priest)!
Revolution is a fun and exciting game, though simple in terms of gameplay mechanics. It works great as a casual party game or as an introduction to the more complex strategy board games. To check your tuning
Guitar
The easiest way to tune your guitar is by relative tuning. Relative tuning is comparing the sound and pitch of adjacent strings. The string with the higher pitch is tuned to match the sound of the lower string.
In this method, there is the assumption that the lower string is tuned properly. If you use this method, you will have to tune the sixth string with a tuning fork or piano. More details on this will be provided later.
The process starts with the tuning of the sixth string. When the sixth string has been tuned, you need to press the sixth string at the fifth fret and pick the string.
